POST 5: Visit Canada

I have a really slow mind so; I don’t think about the future and my plans, I’m busy thinking in nerd stuff like Formula 1, fruit trees, essays, and girls (I’m joking Chisi, don’t leave me).

If you ask me right now, I will tell you to visit Canada, it’s a beautiful place to enjoy the nature (what a hippie), at least that seems in pictures. And it’s a cold place too… That’s a very good reason to take a fly and enjoy my life without moths (ugly creatures).

Of course, I don’t want to go with my family, I mean, I love them, but they are so intense. If I had money, I would like to take a trip with my girlfriend and a cute dog, I don’t have a pet, can you believe that? Anyways I’m not ready with my english, it’s too bad for now, but Antonia knows a lot of that evil language. She is going to talk for me.

In Canada I would like to visit lakes and forests, hopefully with a nice car to take some highway and disappear to the unknown.

Secondly, I want to eat whatever that they eat. I love food, and that’s why I’m a little fat haha. Also, I want to see a blueberry farm, those are my favorites, I really enjoy tasting a lot of varieties and yeah, they are from North America so, I guess that their blueberries are better or equal that ours.

My dream job as a silly little farmer yeehaw

I see myself as an agricultural engineer, seeing plants and things that agricultural engineers do, of course, that’s the degree that I’m studying.

I want to work on something that involves physiology of plants and fruits, especially blueberries or raspberries, they’re very delicious and fun to study. I remember when we went to Bayer, they told us about practically all that an agricultural engineer must do, and I enjoyed all that fruitculture knowledge… And bees, but that’s another story. Did you ever try cotton candy grapes? You’ll never going to enjoy another grape after you taste those, they actually taste like cotton candy!

I would like to live in south of Chile, but please, not in Rancagua, not that place, please. I never had a high salary expectation so, I’ll going to anywhere if I like the job. Something that scares me about an agricultural job is trying to convince old country people that maybe I will be helpful, sounds easy but It’s not.

At this moment I don’t feel prepared to work on a field or whatever my major involves to. So, I have to study a lot if I want to be prepared. It’s not going to be easy, but I will try my best, I want to be a good professional.

My weekend with my blondie girl

My favorite vacation was with my girlfriend in Concón (She and I forgot the place until now) last year. I remember that I spent all my savings on this trip. We were having a small college break and we took this opportunity to make our first road trip. We hit Concón in 2 hours from Curacaví. I was driving in a Volkswagen Gol to a camping place where Antonia said. She also prepared all the things, including dinnerware, tent, blankets, food, etc.

When we hit the camping we prepare the tent and all those things that you do when you are camping. Things got tough when I realized that Antonia didn’t bring the 50% of the things we needed to camp properly… Or survive, including blankets, fire and cutlery. She says that “what doesn't kill you makes you stronger”, but I almost died of hypothermia for real, that was a big deal, and that’s not the end of the story. How was I gonna prepare food if I didn’t have a lighter or something to cook? Well… Fortunately there was a weird Spanish guy that helped me with my little problem. He was like a NPC (non-playable character), like a robot, I don’t know (I don’t wanna be mean, but it was funny to us) I appreciate that he was there.

It’s okay, things didn’t go as we were expecting, but it was really fun and memorable. Just a humble mini-vacation accompanied by my girlfriend, I enjoyed driving (my favorite activity maybe) all the way only with her. Without a doubt, my favorite vacation.

We didn't take pictures, but this image represent everything

Canada

Canada It's a very wonderful country, full of mountains, red trees, rivers and giants and vibrant cities as Toronto or Quebec. Honestly, I don't know too many things about that country but watching movies and the fame that Canada has, especially its politics and nature, can give me sort of idea of it.

First, I would like to visit Canada because it's in America, my favorite continent. Secondly, it's a really large country, I'll probably never get to explore less than half of its territory, they (Canadians) have a lot of natural diversity. Those are the main reasons, I know, I could say many other things but that's already encompassing more reasons inside. When I'm there, I'm going to explore nature, visiting national parks and stuff. Hopefully I won't come across any bears; people really underestimate the power of a bear. Then I would like to drive along a highway and see diverse landscapes. Finally, I would do nightlife and see the old Quebec City, seems good.

To wrap up the topic: There’s too many places that I want to discover, and Canada is only one of them. All travels will be nice if they are with the right people.

The fungi kingdom and the person that I admire

I admire my teacher, Marcela Esterio, a lot. She is an agricultural engineer specialized in phytopathology who has taught me classes on plant health fundamentals and integrated pest and disease management. I admire her because she is highly recognized in her field, especially in the etiology of fungi such as Botrytis spp. in fruit trees and vines, which is something that I find very interesting.

She has published studies on grapevine pathologies and has received awards for her work, as well as projects like "Rapid Diagnosis of Botrytis spp. Mutations Associated with Resistance to Hydroxyanilides and Carboxamides through qPCR-HRM," which she is currently leading.

Marcela Esterio is the creator of the molecular phytopathology laboratory and is now the responsible academic for it. Her main research areas focus on the etiology and management of pests and diseases in fruit trees and vines. She served as the president of the Sociedad Chilena de Fitopatología from 2009 to 2012. She has been recognized by the Colegio de Ingenieros Agrónomos de Chile for her contributions to the research and management of Botrytis.

I don't want to use her image without permission, and I also don't want her to know what I've written because I feel embarrassed. So, I'll share a very cute kitten picture that I found on the internet instead, look at him, he's gorgeous.

Sushi's birthday

This photo means a lot for me, it probably look ridiculous, but, come on, look at him, he's really happy. It was a... Honestly, I don't remember that day exactly, but it was his birthday. I'm a mess with dates.

He's my best friend and we wanted, with Antonia, to buy some stuff to celebrate him. That day, we took a micro to a supermarket, then, we bought them a chocolate cake and cutlery, it was really expensive but it doesn't matter, Antonia have a lot of money (I'm just joking). When we left the supermarket, I've noticed that we forgot all that funny birthday stuff. But as I mentioned before, I don't have much money, so we went to a Chinese mall and found many things that didn't match with a birthday theme, but were pretty anyways.

When we returned to the university, our entire group ate cake and had a lot of fun with this little friend.

NOTE: He's not 15, it was just funny to put that number there.
